CFA Fencers Excel at the Kickoff ROC!

The Kickoff ROC is one of the largest tournaments in the country that are not full blown NAC’s and they are also possible qualifiers to the Summer National Championships. This weekend over the two day event CFA fencers had some wonderful bouts against some of the best opponents the East Coast has to offer.

The CFA ladies had some incredibly fencing this weekend. Emily Lien and Rosalie Purvis fenced wonderfully in the Division 1A Womens Epee event! They were the highest placing fencers in the event representing a VA club and finished in the medal round 5th and 8th respectively. They also qualified themselves to Summer National Championships in the first Open of the season!

Anya Michaelsen made the Division 1A Foil event look easy, finishing 3rd against some of the best foil fencers in the country and qualifying to Summer Nationals. Veronica Weser also had a very strong showing in her first ever VA open in the Div 2 epee event, finishing 6th place and updating her E to a 2013.

Our guys did some wonderful fencing also! Doug Daniels finished with a very strong 10th place finish in the Div 1A saber, and top 8 in the Div 2. Nathaniel Lilly and Steven Pressendo both had some strong fencing in the Div 2 Saber event. Matt Steppan finished 10th in the Div 2 event as well, going undefeated in his pools. In the foil, Nathaniel Sides had some great bouts and a very strong showing in both the Div 1A and Div 2 men’s foil.

Also representing the club with some great bouts and strong fencing were Sarah Simmons, Emily Brown, Irina Klissourova, Tristin Johnson, Chandler Hamilton and Daniel Hothem.

Congratulations to our CFA fencers, medalists and Summer National Championship qualifiers. You make us proud!
